Whether you are looking to get your hands on the Vicar’s Key or have already obtained it but don’t know where to use it, I’ve got you covered with my guide on how to get and use Vicar’s Key in Atomfall.
The Vicar’s Key is a key item in Atomfall that you can use to unlock the Vicar’s Chest, which holds an Atomic Battery.
For players who don’t know, you need Atomic Batteries to power up the different Data Stores within the Interchange to progress the main quest.
And unlock new areas within the Interchange.
That said, there are multiple ways to get the Vicar’s Key in the game.
Some methods are easy and quick, while some require some drastic and serious decision-making with consequences.
In this guide, I briefly talk about all the methods you can use to get the Vicar’s Key in Atomfall while sharing the one that I like the most.
Where to find the Vicar and Vicar’s Chest in Atomfall

You can find the Vicar and his locked chest inside St. Katherine’s Church, located in the southern part of the Wyndham Village.

Head to the above highlighted location and you will find the church.

Enter the church through any of the entrances.

The Vicar’s Chest is found on the first floor in the marked area.
It is visible from the ground floor.
To reach there, you can take the stairs on the right side.

To open the Vicar’s Chest, you need the Vicar’s Key, which you can obtain from the Vicar himself.

The Vicar’s Chest has an Atomic Battery and a note called “A Fruitful Trade.”
How to get Vicar’s Key in Atomfall

There are multiple ways to get the Vicar’s Key in Atomfall. These are:
- Killing the Vicar and looting his body.
- Solving Maisie’s murder mystery.
- Buying an Atomic Battery from Molly and then talking to the Vicar.
While killing the Vicar sounds the easiest and most tempting one, I don’t recommend doing it.
Why?
Because there’s a side quest associated with him.
Moreover, why kill when you can easily get the Vicar’s Key through an alternative method?

Moving to the second method, when you enter St. Katherine’s Church for the first time, you will find the dead body of an NPC named Maisie Higgins.
On it, you will find a Bloodied Note that you can use to resolve the murder mystery.
I don’t like this method, too, as you solve the mystery (no spoilers), you will a particular NPC vendor has murdered her.
Confronting him gives you three options:
- Stay silent
- Ask him to leave
- Kill him
If you follow the quest to the end, you will obtain the Vicar’s Key from Vicar McHenry.
Now, moving to my favorite method, which I also find the quickest and easiest way to get Vicar’s Key in the game—Purchasing the Atomic Battery from Molly and then talking to Vicar McHenry.

You can find Molly at the above marked location.

Go to the location and talk to her.
Select the Barter dialogue option to enter the Trade menu.
Once you are in the Trade menu, select the Atomic Battery for the Trade.
Molly prefers Molotov Cocktails and Painkillers for trade.
As you can see in the above screenshot.
[Note: If you don’t have Molotov Cocktails, I have a detailed guide on where to find a Molotov Cocktail Recipe in Atomfall. Check it out for more details.]

Once you complete the trade and exit the menu, listen to what Molly says.

She will tell you that she had another Atomic Battery that she sold to the Vicar.

The dialogue will also trigger a new lead called Atomic Batteries.
Now, return to the church in Wyndham Village.

Talk to Vicar McHenry.

Select the dialogue option, “What happened? Were they murdered?”

After that, select “I’ve heard you own an Atomic Battery. I’ll take that as payment for my silence.”
Once that is done, Vicar McHenry will give you the Vicar’s Key.
