If you trying to play Oblivion Remastered on PC but are facing severe lag and stutter issue, I’ve got the fixes for you. You can implement these to get a massive boost in FPS.

After RuneScape Dragonwilds, the long rumored Oblivion Remastered was shadow dropped on April 22, 2025 on all major platforms.

It is a UE5 remaster, and as many had already expected it, it runs poorly on most hardware, sometimes, irrespective of your specifications.

Players have been facing lag and stutter issue even with GPUs like RTX 4080 and RTX 4090.

Even the fake FPS from the new RTX 5000 series is not enough as players are still facing lag and stutter while playing the game.

And that is why, I prepared this detailed guide on how you can fix the lag and stutter issue in Oblivion Remastered.

How to improve FPS and reduce lag and stutter while playing Oblivion Remastered

You can fix the Oblivion Remastered lag and stutter issue while getting a massive FPS boost by editing the Engine.INI file and also deleting the sc.pcl.dll file.

Of course, there are also some tweaking that you can do with the in-game Graphics Settings.

But, the above method is the only way I found to fix the lag and stutter issue and improve my FPS.

And in case, you guys are wondering, I tested this out on an RTX 3070.

With that said, here’s what you must do:

First, download Ultimate Engine Tweaks file

Head to Ultimate Engine Tweaks Nexus Mod page and log in to your account.

If you don’t have one, create and login.

Once done, click on the ‘Manual‘ download button.

Based on whether your monitor has VRR or such options, download the correct Engine.INI file.

Replace the Engine file

Now, head to the following path:

Gamepass: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered

Open the Oblivion Remastered folder.

Now, navigate to Saved > Config folder and open the WinGDK if you are playing the game via Gamepass.

Or, the Windows folder, if you are playing the game through Steam.

There, you will find the Engine file. I recommend making a copy of it.

Once done, extract the downloaded zip and copy the Engine file within it.

Paste it in the opened folder and replace the exisiting file.

After that, go to the Engine file’s Properties, click on the Read-only box and Apply.

Delete the sc.pcl.dll

Now, open the game file location where you have installed Oblivion Remastered folder and navigate to the following folder:

Oblivion Remastered > Engine > Plugins > Marketplace > nvidia > DLSS > Streamline > Binaries > ThirdParty > Win64

Once you are in the Win64 folder, make a copy of the sc.pcl.dll file and delete it from the folder.

Tweak graphic options

Now, open the game. From the main menu, lower some of the graphics options if you want.

Like Shadows, draw distance, etc. [Not mandatory.]

Make sure you are using DLSS, FSR, etc based on your GPU.

Restart the game and once you are back in, the lag and stutter should be gone!

If not, you can curse me in the comments. Have a good day!
