Fallout 76 is planned to get a major update, unlike anything seen before, this December, and the changes to the PTS server suggest, we may be getting a brand new map expansion.
For players who don’t know, during the Summer Game Fest 2025, Fallout 76’s Creative Director, John Rush, and Production Director, Bill Lacoste, gave an interview to several games journalists talking about the game’s Gone Fishing update, which is now live.
During an interview with James Daly from GamesRadar+, John talked about the game’s future, highlighting the C.A.M.P. Building and Combat update, currently live in the PTS.
But what caught the attention of many was John hinting at a major patch coming this December.
When asked, “Where do you see Fallout 76 and a wider of the Fallout in the another seven years?”
John replied, “Well! Speaking on behalf of Fallout 76, you know, there’s has been some great stuff going on.”
He continued, “We have got some huge updates. You can become a Ghoul, we’ve got Raids, we’ve got Fishing, but from here, it is only going to get bigger and better.”
We’ve got plans way far into the future for this game. You know, even just looking at a little further down the road this year, this December, a huge megaton-sized update coming to players, uh, which I’m not gonna talk about at all.
After the Gone Fishing update, Fallout 76 will get the C.A.M.P. and Combat update, which will introduce Workshop 2.0, featuring a cleaner and simpler UI for the build menu.
It will also add a ton of new building-related features that will make base building a lot easier and give players more freedom.
Beyond that, the next confirmed update is the December major update that John talked about.
Now, coming to the main topic, as you may already know, the PTS for C.A.M.P. and Combat update is now live.

And in it, we have a significant change to a key POI, Point Pleasant, located in the Forest region in the western part of the game’s map, that suggests the December 2025 update that John talked about might introduce a brand new map expansion.

In the current version of Fallout 76, when you head to the famous collapsed Silver Bridge, you will find the entry to the bridge blocked.

Moreover, when you go past the blockade, it is empty, leading to the collapsed bridge part, with the area further being out of bounds.

But in the PTS version, the path is now open, filled with new structures and Mothman Cultist enemies.
Here are some screenshots:

Here’s a video showcasing the Point Pleasant Silver Bridge’s current version vs the PTS version.
I recommend checking it out:
For people who don’t know, the Silver Bridge was one of the most iconic construction marvels that connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia, to Gallipolis, Ohio.

You can find the trivia about it on the board right of the Silver Bridge entrance in Fallout 76.
Currently, the bridge is blocked, and in the PTS, it is now open and has a revamped look.

And that is why, whether it is I or many other people in the Fallout 76 community, who think the December 2025 update that John talked about may add parts of Ohio as new regions, expanding the current map and Fallout 76’s main story.

However, since there are no official details confirming this, we should take the new map expansion thing with a massive grain of salt.
I will update this article once we have more details on the Fallout 76 December 2025 update.
Until then, let me know what your thoughts are on this. Are we really getting a new map expansion?
