Vend of the Line is one of the most rewarding and somewhat difficult side missions in Borderlands 4 that not only has a trophy/achievement associated with it called All Things Vend that you can miss even after completing the quest, but it also rewards you with a Legendary weapon of your choice from a unique inventory.
The quest has a secret ending associated with the All Things Vend achievement that many players miss out on, as there’s no quest marker or objective that hints at it, other than a dialogue from Zane.
And that is why I prepared this complete walkthrough for Vend of the Line side quest in Borderlands 4, along with the secret ending.
How to start Vend of the Line side quest in Borderlands 4
You unlock the Vend of the Line side quest by completing the main quest, Siege and Destroy, in the Carcadia Burn region questline.
Doing so gives you access to the Electi Faction Town, where you start Vend of the Line quest.
Head to the quest location as shown in the above screenshot.
Once there, talk to Penelope Streams.
Doing so will give you the option to ‘Accept’ the quest or ‘Accept and Track’ the quest.
Borderlands 4 Vend of the Line side quest walkthrough
After you start Vend of the Line quest, the first objective is to talk to the Vault Gatherer NPC.
Once done, you will get the objective to inspect the machine.
Head behind the machine and interact with the symbols to progress.
The symbols are clues that denote how you should interact with the Vending Machine to progress further.
That said, what you have to do is sell gear in the given order:
- Green
- Green
- Blue
- Blue
Once you sell the items in the correct order, the objective will progress.
The next objective is to “Find other Vending Machines.”
Head to the location pointed by the quest marker. It will lead you to the second Vending Machine.
Once you arrive there, you will find the Vending Machine is facing power issues.
To resolve that, climb up the building in front of you.
Interact with the power switch to fix the issue.
Head back to the Vending Machine and you will see it’s all powered up.
Now, head behind the Vending Machine.
Jump and look at the back of the Vending Machine to find the next clue, which is buying gear in the following order:
- Green
- Purple
- Blue
- Green
But since there’s no item in the Vending Machine’s inventory, you must first sell the equipment and then buy it back in the above order.
If you do it correctly, the quest will progress.
Head to the third Vending Machine’s location located in the Grindstone of the Worthy sub-region.
When you arrive there, you will find the Vending Machine fallen on an NPC.
Interact with the arrows on the back of the Vending Machine to progress.
Once done, follow the stairs where the arrows are directing.
On your left, you will find a hanging ladder. Grab it to reach the top.
Once you reach the top, head to the platform on the right side as pointed by the arrow on the wall.
Stand near the window.
You will find the clues for solving the puzzle, which is selling:
- Purple
- Purple
- Orange
- Orange
Thankfully, you don’t have to do anything here. Just head back to the Vending Machine and the NPC crushed by it will do all the work before being crushed to death.
Now head to the fourth Vending Machine’s location.
You will see an NPC standing in front of it. Speak to him.
Once done, look on the left side of the Vending Machine.
You will find an opening. Crouch and follow the path to go behind the Vending Machine.
The back of the Vending Machine is blocked by wooden beams. Shoot them down to reveal the puzzle clue, which is selling gear in the following order:
- Green
- Purple
- Blue
- Purple
But there’s a catch. The NPC in front of the Vending Machine will not let you interact with the machine.
First, hit the machine with a melee attack.
By doing so, you will be presented with two options:
- Melee customer
- Shoot the machine to activate the defense system
Choose whatever option you like. I shot the machine to get rid of the customer.
Now, sell the gear in the above order (G->P->B->P) to progress.
Head to the fifth Vending Machine’s location.
Defeat the enemies in the area.
Head to the Vending Machine. Now, the clue or the code, whatever you like to call it, is behind the Vending Machine and can also be seen on the wall left of the Vending Machine.
As you can see the code is behind the machine.
As well as, on the wall, hidden by a wooden board that you can grapple with and remove. It’s the same code.
Sell the items in the following order to progress:
- Green
- Blue
- Purple
- Orange
Note: You can buy back your gear in case the Legendary or other items you sold are good and you don’t want to sell them.
Now, follow the quest marker which is close to the fifth Vending Machine.
You will see the Vault Gatherers have followed you to the final Vending Machine.
Follow the path within the cave to reach the Legendary Vending Machine.
Defeat the Legendary Vending Machine. Now, here comes the secret ending. Usually, you would take a Legendary from the Vending Machine to complete the quest.
But, there’s one more code that you can enter in the machine to get the secret ending and unlock the All Things Vend achievement.
Secret Ending
After defeating the Legendary Vending Machine, if you listen closely to Zane’s dialogues, he will mention:
If you could look out for a-ahhh, never mind. Happy huntin’!
If you look at the ground, you will find another code:
- Green (Sell)
- Green (Sell)
- Green (Sell)
- Orange (Buy)
Sell three Greens and then buy one Legendary.
Doing so will drop a key item called Picture of Zane and Levaine.
Grab the picture and teleport to Moxxi’s Bottoms Up!
Talk to Zane and give him the picture.
Zane will talk about some stuff that I won’t spoil. Once he finishes talking, the quest will end, and you will get the All Things Vend achievement.
