For players who don’t know, there is an achievement in COD MW4 called Long Shot that you can unlock only when you take out four enemies firing mortars during the Counter Attack mission.
This segment takes place when you are on the roof, and your party is getting attacked by the tanks, rocket launchers, and such.
In all that chaos, finding these Mortar enemies can be difficult for some players, and what makes this achievement harder is that when you shoot one, the other tries to run away, costing you the chance to unlock it.
That’s why I put together this guide, sharing the location of the Mortar enemies and tips for unlocking the Long Shot achievement.
All four Mortar enemies’ locations during the Counter Attack mission in Modern Warfare 4
The enemies firing mortars spawn during the last rooftop segment of the Counter Attack mission. For the sake of this guide, I’ll cover the entire sequence that spawns the mortar enemies.
First, collect the Sniper Rifle on the ground. Then, bring up your binoculars and look down the road on the right.
Once you spot your allies, enemies with rocket launchers will spawn on the roof of the building on the left.
Mark them.
After that, mark the targets on the City Hall building on the right.
Once you clear the two roofs, a Tank will spawn on the right side near the City Hall building.
Use the launcher and destroy the Tank to spawn the first two enemies firing the Mortars.
After that, the two enemies will spawn on the left side of the City Hall building, as marked in the screenshot above.
Take both out using the Sniper Rifle.
Tips: As soon as you shoot one, the other will run away. You’re likely to miss your second shot. So quickly go to the menu and load the last checkpoint. Keep doing it until you take out both enemies.

To spawn the other two mortar-firing enemies, take out the remaining Tanks.
Once you do, a sniper will spawn on the left building as marked in the screenshot above. Killing the sniper spawns the next Mortar enemies.
These are on the roof of the building to the left of the City Hall, as marked in the screenshot above.
Take them out. If you miss, load the checkpoint and keep trying.
