Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist is the first quest you get in Genshin Impact’s Lost Traveler in the Ashen Realm: Act I City Buried By Ash world quest.
It is a massive quest in the game filled with sections like “Explore the Tower,” “Explore Ashflow Street and collect Secret Source Scraps,” and others where players can get stuck.
Until you progress the Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist quest, you won’t be able to unlock the next quest, “Adventure in the Lands of Mist.”
So, to ensure you are not stuck on the quest, I am here with a complete walkthrough of Genshin Impact’s Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist quest.
How to get City Buried By Ash quest in Genshin Impact
In Genshin Impact, you can unlock the Lost Traveler in the Ashen Realm: Act I City Buried By Ash world quest and the sub-quest within it, Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist, by activating the Ochkanatlan Statue of Seven.
Once you do that, at the base of the tower where the Statue of Seven is located, an opening will appear, and after a cutscene, you will see the above screen.
After that, you can track the quest via the Journal.
Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist quest walkthrough
City Buried By Ash world quest and the sub-quest within it, Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist, starts with the first objective being heading to the Ochkanatlan area.
Go to Ochkanatlan
Follow the blue quest marked that leads to the entrance of Ochkanatlan.
You can either glide there or use the Saurian transformation available on the broken bridge and the nearby areas to reach the quest area.
Before progressing the quest, claim the Exquisite Chest near the bridge at the above location.
Keep exploring Ochkanatlan
When you cross the bridge, the quest will progress with the new objective of continuing to explore Ochkanatlan.
How to defeat blue glowing enemies in Genshin Impact
Before you can explore the area, you will have to fight a few Hilichurls, including the new blue-glowing enemies.
Defeat the regular enemies, and for the glowing ones, attack them until the meter below them is full.
Once you do that, a creature, as shown in the above screenshot, will spawn. Kill it before it transforms back into the glowing enemy.
Even if you miss the chance, just fill the meter by attacking and try to take out the enemy in the next try.
To complete the “Keep exploring Ochkanatlan” objective, you must interact with the tower gate, as seen in the screenshot above.
But on your way, you will find another Exquisite Chest, unlock it by defeating all nearby enemies.
Once done, move to the player icon location as shown in the above screenshot.
As mentioned earlier, interact with the tower door to progress the quest.
Try to get into the tower up ahead
The next objective is getting into the tower.
Do not waste your time wandering near the gate.
Instead, follow the path on the left side of the gate.
You will find stairs leading towards the top of the tower.
Head there, and as soon as you enter the tower’s first floor, a cutscene will play out, and the doors will close.
Explore the tower
The next objective in the quest, where many players get stuck, is exploring the tower.
Right after the cutscene ends, use the nearby Saurian Transformation to turn into Iktomisaur.
Now, aim at the rune on the wall to remove the wooden box on top of the lever.
Once you do that, the box will vanish, and you can interact with the lever.
Do it and drop down. Doing so will automatically unlock the Teleport Waypoint in the room.
Now, after Paimon’s blabbering ends. Look to your right (left of the massive mural on the wall).
You will see a path. Take it.
Use the lift to head into the lower chamber of the tower.
As soon as you arrive below. Near the lift, you will find another Iktomisaur Saurian Transformation.
Transform and scan the rune on the wall. Doing so will remove the nearby wooden box and let you place it using the ‘E’ key on the PC and the corresponding button on other platforms.

How to unlock Aparecium Achievement
Placing the wooden box below the jammed door will not only open the path forward but also unlock the Aparecium achievement.
When you head inside the room, you will find a Chest and a log.
Before you can open the chest or interact with the log, the floor will collapse, and you will find yourself in the cave you see in the above screenshot.
Move ahead, transform into Iktomisaur and scan the rune on the wall near the locked door.
Doing so will give you access to the lever required to open the door.
But before that, place the box right below the open gate, as you can see in the screenshot above.
This is because interacting with the lever closes the first door and unlocks the other one.
Now, head back and interact with the lever.
Lastly, head inside the room. A cutscene will play out, and you will meet Bona.
Exhaust her dialogues to progress the quest.
Leave the tower
The next objective is leaving the tower with Bona.
Go near the gate at the base of the tower and interact with the switch to open the door.
Explore Ashflow Street and collect Secret Source Scrap(s)
The next objective requires you to collect three blue feather-like items called Secret Source Scraps.
They are easy to find as you get a blue objective marker leading to them.
But how to get rid of the barrier? Well! You can see the two orb-like structures that I have marked in the screenshot above.
Stand near them so that both are in the golden ring around you.
Doing so will remove the barrier.
Once the barrier is gone, collect the first Secret Source Scrap.
Now go to the second Secret Source Scrap and follow the same steps.
Once you collect the second Secret Source Scrap, the Dragon of the City of Flowing Ash will return.
It will start throwing fireballs at you. You can either tank it using Zhongli’s shield or avoid the blast areas while making your way to the third and final Secret Source Scrap.

Once you collect the third Secret Source Scrap, the objective requires you to fight the dragon using the Cocouik, the small creature with Bona.
You must use the creature’s laser attack, which you can charge by doing a basic attack on the dragon.
After the laser is charged, attack the dragon with it until the meter below it is at 75%.
Make sure to block the incoming attacks using the shield ability.
Once you fill the meter, the objective will be completed.
Tack the evil dragon down
The next objective in the quest is easy to complete; all you have to do is follow the blue quest mark leading to the dragon’s lair.
It is near the third Secret Source Scrap.
Defeat the evil dragon in its lair
Once you are inside the dragon’s lair, fight him!
Once you lower his HP by around 75% to 80%, a cutscene will play out and the dragon will run away.
After the cutscene ends, the Vaulting the Wall of Morning Mist quest ends.
