PlayStation’s monthly report on the most downloaded games in the US/Canada and EU regions is now available, and Borderlands 4 has managed to top the charts despite some performance and other issues that the developers are actively working on fixing, with some missing features, such as the FOV slider, already implemented.
In the US and Canada, Borderlands 4 was the second-best-selling game on the PS5 and PS5 Pro in September, behind only NBA 2K26, which was released a week earlier than Borderlands 4.
Whereas in the EU region, Borderlands 4 was the third best-selling game last month, with EA Sports FC 26 and Hollow Knight Silksong taking the first and second place.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, as even though Borderlands 4 was released almost two weeks into September, the game had a really impressive early metrics when it comes to sales on both PC and Consoles.
As per Alinea Analytics report, on PC, Borderlands 4 managed to sell around 1.3+ million copies via Steam in the first week after launch, whereas the PlayStation and Xbox sales were also 1+ million copies.

While the exact number of copies Borderlands 4 has sold on PC and Consoles is still not yet disclosed, as per the last reports, in the first week alone, Borderlands 4 had 2.5+ million players across all platforms, generating around $150 million in revenues.
This aligns with PlayStation’s official top downloaded games charts for September, and it shows that despite performance and other concerns, Borderlands 4 is performing strongly in terms of sales, as in the launch week alone, it became one of the best-selling AAA games of 2025.
That said, according to Jason Schreier’s sources, Borderlands 3’s development budget was around $95 million. Meanwhile, back in May 2025, Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, confirmed that the development budget for Borderlands 4 was twice its predecessor, which should fall around $190 million.
So while Gearbox is yet to come out and share the official sales numbers and such details, as per estimates, the game should have broken even by now and become a profitable release.
