Whether you want to learn how to become and play as a ghoul in Fallout 76 or know about the ghoul abilities and gameplay mechanics, I’m here to help you with this guide.
The Ghoulvolution update is finally available in the PTS and is planned to be released in the main game by the end of Q1 2025.
For players who don’t know, with the Ghoulvolution update, we are getting two new POIs, a ton of new Ghoul perks, including regular and legendary ones, new quests, and much more.
The update’s main highlight is the option to become a ghoul.
So, keep reading as I explain how you can become a ghoul in Fallout 76.
How to become a ghoul in Fallout 76

In Fallout 76, you can become a ghoul by completing the Ghoulification intro quest, Leap of Faith.
Once you do that, you will trigger another quest called “A Fresh Pair of Genes.”

In this quest, you get the option to become a ghoul by talking to the NPC named Parthenia.

That said, here’s the complete walkthrough of the quest A Fresh Pair of Genes.
Fallout 76 A Fresh Pair of Genes quest walkthrough
A Fresh Pair of Genes quest consists of three major sections. These are:
- Speak to Parthenia about becoming a ghoul
- Use the Inhaler
- Enter the Radiation Chamber
Speak to Parthenia about becoming a ghoul

Once you complete the Leap of Faith quest in the game, you will trigger A Fresh Pair of Genes quest, with the first objective being talking to Parthenia.
Thankfully, she is right beside you, granted you have just completed the Leap of Faith quest.

Talk to Parthenia and exhaust her dialogues.
Select the dialogue option, “You have enough materials to turn me into a ghoul, too? Sign me up!”

Doing so will progress the quest and task for you to use the inhaler.
Use the Inhaler

The Inhaler is on the table right beside Parthenia. Go near it and press the interact button.
Enter the Radiation Chamber

The Radiation Chamber is inside the Launch Silo room.
You can find it by following the straight path from where Parthenia is standing.

Once you enter the room, the screen will black out, and you will enter a sort of ghoul character customization menu.

Customize the look of your ghoul character and confirm.
That is it! You will now be a ghoul.
But you are not done yet. Before you can head back to the wasteland and talk to human NPCs, you must first get your disguise from the NPC named Jaye Vo.
Where is Jaye Vo in Fallout 76

Jaye Vo is on the right side of the room with the bar at the ghoul hideout.
As soon as you become a ghoul, turn right to enter the bar area.

Right when you enter the other room, take another right, and you will find Jaye Vo.

Talk to her and stand in her area to automatically get the disguise.
Fallout 76 Ghoulities explained

Ghoulification has a new series of perks, passive abilities, and mechanics that come into play as you become a ghoul.
For stat boosts, becoming a ghoul applies the following stats to your character:
- -10 Charisma
- 100% Disease Resist
- You will not die from radiation anymore
Other than that, there are new mechanics, such as:
Feral Meter

The Feral Meter is a new mechanic that you can find at the bottom right side of the screen.
It replaces the Hunger and Thirst meters that you would generally see as a human character.

That said, the Feral Meter is there so you can track your sanity and the associated pros and cons that come along with it.
When the Feral Meter is:
- Above 80%: STR +3, END +3 and +30 Max HP
- Above 60%: +15 Max HP
- Above 40%: You lose -1 END and -5 Max AP
- Above 20%: You lose -3 END, -15 Max AP and -10 Max AP
- At 0%: You gain 200% Melee DMG and lose -5 END, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip Fire Accuracy and Ranged V.A.T.S. Accuracy
Ghoul Disguises

The ghoul disguise that you get from Jaye Vo allows you to interact with the human NPCs, but it also reduces radiation intake.
Moreover, you must talk to Jaye Vo again to unequip the disguise.
You cannot remove it from the Pip-Boy menu.
Ghoul Glow mechanic

When you expose yourself to radiation, the Glow mechanic comes into play.
You can see the green-striped pattern on top of your health bar. That is your Glow meter.
The Glow mechanic greatly increases your HP and helps you benefit from several Glow-associated ghoul perks.
How to get Glow as a ghoul in Fallout 76

To get your Glow meter at full or to maintain it in the game, you must either stand near radiation or eat radiated or tainted food or beverages.
The best option that I found during my playthrough was consuming Toxic Goo, which you can find a ton inside Westek Research.
Other than that, consuming spoiled food is also a good option.
Don’t worry about getting sick, as you get 100% Disease Resist after becoming a ghoul.
