If base building is what you enjoy in Fallout 76, you must know about the new Relaxed Build Rules and the Workshop 2.0 coming to the game with the next update.
For players who don’t know, Fallout 76’s next update, which will be released in a few months, will introduce a complete overhaul of the current base-building system.
The main highlights of the update are: Relaxed Build Rules and Workshop 2.0.
As the name suggests, the new Relaxed Build Rules will allow players to place foundations and other objects almost anywhere they want.
Moreover, power cables can be built even if they intersect with another object.
On the other hand, Workshop 2.0 gives a more organized and cleaner look to the base building menu, allowing players to find the correct objects more quickly and easily.
So, if you want to learn about all the new changes coming to Fallout 76’s base building, keep reading!
Fallout 76 Workshop 2.0 overview

The Workshop 2.0 changes the UI of the build menu, adjusting categories and subcategories in a vertical format, giving a cleaner look.

Moreover, there are also new categories and features like filtering building items with the following options:
- Filter Buildable
- Filter Unlockable
- Filter Known
- Maximize Variants
- Expand Info Card
For me, Filter Buildable and Filter Known are the best filters that will come in handy while base building.
That being said, here’s a detailed look at the new UI for all build menu categories and subcategories:
Quests
Objectives (This category only appears when a quest is active and will disappear after the quest is completed.

Fallout 76 new relaxed build rules overview

The new relaxed build rules are the ones that most players, especially the ones who enjoy base building, are going to like the most.
Here’s a look at all the changes that will be introduced to the C.A.M.P. building as a part of the relaxed build rules:
Snapping Items
Previously, when you tried to place an item, it would snap to the base object. But with the new rules, there are no more restrictions.
You can still snap items. But, you can also now place them without the requirement for snapping them together.
For example, you can build walls beneath foundations. You can create upper floors without making a staircase. You can stack a foundation on top of a foundation, etc.
Moreover, you can now also over-snap items.
Placement Mode Toggles
There are three new placement modes in the new C.A.M.P. building mode:
Snap Mode (Normal)

Place items the way you’re used to.
Collision Mode

Items will not auto-snap but will consider collisions.
Free Mode

No snapping and no collisions.
Placement Restrictions
The placement restrictions for building items are mostly gone. It means you can place items even in the air. No ground required.
However, there are still a few category items like crops, extractors, and water-bound items that still follow the old rule.
Foundations
Items that used to require a foundation to be placed no longer have that requirement.
Power Cables
As I mentioned earlier, you can now build power cables even if the cable intersects with another object.
