Fallout 76 Legendary crafting changes and new system explained–Crafting God tier Legendaries has become easier

With the arrival of the Milepost Zero update, the Legendary crafting system in Fallout 76 received a massive overhaul, making it much easier for players to get the perfect Legendary God Roll—but without that roll and now by selecting the Legendary Effect. And if you are confused about the new system or don’t know how it differs from the old one, here’s my guide explaining Fallout 76 Legendary crafting changes and the new system.

How new Fallout 76 Legendary crafting works

The new Legendary crafting system in Fallout 76 has removed the RNG factor, but this comes at the cost of an increased requirement for Legendary Modules, which are replacing Legendary Cores.

Previously, to make a weapon Legendary, players were required to use Legendary Cores to roll the different ⭐, ⭐⭐, ⭐⭐⭐ effects that were allotted on a random basis. The chance of getting the right combination of Legendary Effects was even lower than your chance of pulling a good girl.

But now, with a complete Legendary crafting system overhaul, you can finally select the ⭐, ⭐⭐, ⭐⭐⭐ Legendary Effects that you want. So, no more rerolling.

Here’s the catch.

Before you are able to select a desired Legendary Effect, you must still perform a Legendary roll once:

• ⭐ Legendary Roll: Requires 5 Legendary Modules
• ⭐⭐ Legendary Roll: Requires 10 Legendary Modules
• ⭐⭐⭐ Legendary Roll: Requires 15 Legendary Modules

To apply a desired Legendary Effect on a weapon, armor, or Power Armor, you must have Legendary Scrips and the Legendary Mod on you that you won’t want to apply.

So, let’s say I have a ‘Quad’ ⭐ Legendary Effect on my Railway Gun, but I need to swap it to Bloodied.

To do so, I must have a Bloodied Mod for Ranged Weapon and the required Legendary Scrips (10 at the time of writing). Only then will I be able to perform the swap.

This is where the new grind for Legendary begins!

With the Milepost Zero update, you now not only have a chance to obtain Legendary Mods from scrapping Legendary items but also have a chance to learn their Crafting Recipe that you can use at the Tinker’s Workbench to craft the Legendary Mod, granted you have the required materials.

Summarizing everything I have said so far, here’s how you craft a Legendary with the new system in Fallout 76:

New crafting process for Legendaries in Fallout 76

1. Craft or collect equipment that you want to turn into Legendary
2. Head to the respective workbench
   • Weapon Workbench for ranged and melee weapons
   • Armor Workbench for armors
   • Power Armor Station for your Power Armor
3. Select ‘Modify/Repair’ option
4. Now, navigate to the equipment
5. Choose the option ‘Add Legendary Mods’
   • Select Random ⭐
   • Select Random ⭐⭐
   • Select Random ⭐⭐⭐
6. Doing so, you will get a random Legendary Roll.
7. Now, to change the Legendary Effect, select the equipment again
8. Select the Mod Slot that you want to change with another Legendary Mod
9. Lastly, select the Mod that you want to swap with
10. Enjoy!

How to get Legendary Effect Mods in Fallout 76

In Fallout 76, you can get Legendary Mods by scrapping the respective equipment. To get a Legendary Weapon Mod, you must scrap Legendary Weapons; for Armor, you must scrap Legendary Armors; and for Power Armor, you must scrap Legendary Power Armor pieces.

Based on the rarity of the equipment you scrap, you have a different % chance of obtaining the equipment’s Legendary Effect as a Mod Box.

Here’s a breakdown for it:

• ⭐ Equipment: 1% chance to get the Legendary Mod Box.
• ⭐ ⭐ Equipment: 2% chance to get the Legendary Mod Box.
• ⭐⭐⭐ Equipment: 3% chance to get the Legendary Mod Box.

How to get Plans for Legendary Mods in Fallout 76

Whenever you scrap Legendary equipment in Fallout 76, you have a 1% chance of obtaining the Legendary Effects Plan that’s current on the equipment.

For example, if my weapon has the Agility Legendary Effect, when I scrap it, there is a 1% chance I will get the Plans for crafting Agility Legendary Mod, and based on the rarity of the weapon, between 1 to 3% chance of obtaining the Agility Legendary Mod Box.

How to craft Legendary Effects Mod Boxes in Fallout 76

Once you have unlocked the Plans for crafting a Legendary Mod in Fallout 76, you must head to any Tinker’s Workbench and select the ‘Craft’ option. There, you can craft the unlocked Legendary Mods, granted you have the required materials.

Can you reroll or swap Legendary Effects of Named Legendary equipment in Fallout 76?

The answer is both yes and no! While you cannot reroll the Legendary Effects or swap the existing ones from a Named Legendary equipment in Fallout 76, there are a few Named Legendaries where you can swap the Legendary Effects using the above process.
