The Inventor is an NPC found in the western part of the Australia map in a settlement located on a remote island.
If you try to reach the island on foot, you will most probably down.
On the other hand, even if you make it to the island, there’s a high chance all the options in the terminal will be greyed out.
But since you need to get the Inventor on the Chiral Network to get the Otter Hood, I highly recommend not skipping this part.
That said, in this guide, I have shared everything you need to know about how you can reach the Inventor’s island, activate it, and get the Otter Hood.

How to connect The Inventor’s Island to Chiral Network in Death Stranding 2
To connect the Inventor’s Island to the Chiral Network, you must deliver at least one Lost Cargo of his to his settlement.
You can find a ton of Lost Cargo near the shores where the Inventor’s Island is located.
Go there and perform a scan, and you will be able to find and collect them.
Once you have the Lost Cargo, head to the Inventor’s Delivery Terminal and interact with it.
Choose the ‘Deliver and Report’ option.
Select all the Lost Cargo and turn them in.
Go through the usual result windows.
Once done, the Inventor’s Island and the area around it will come under the Chiral Network.
How to get the Otter Hood in Death Stranding 2
As I said earlier, you can get the Otter Hood by linking the Inventor’s Settlement to the Chiral Network.
Once you do that, he will give you the Otter Hood gear as a reward.
You can equip it by pressing and holding the ‘<-‘ (Left D-pad) button and selecting it in the Head section.
As for what it does, it greatly improves your swimming abilities.
How to get to the Inventor’s Island in Death Stranding 2
There are three ways to get to the Inventor’s Island in Death Stranding 2. These are:
- Drive on the shallow water
- Build and take the Monorail
- Build a Zipline
Drive on the shallow water
This is by far the easiest method that you can use to reach the Inventor’s Island whenever you want to make deliveries.
All you must do is go near the shore and press the L1 key to perform a scan.
Once you do that, the shallow water areas will be marked by yellow pixels.
Drive on the yellow path until you reach the island.
I have tried it many times. You can easily get to the island without your vehicle without drowning.
Using the Monorail
The Monorail method requires a little work before you can use it to reach the Inventor’s Island.
First, you must restore the Tracklayer AUS-RAIL-NW02-01 located north of Mine North of F1 and the AUS-RAIL-NW02-03.
Doing so will connect the Monorail tracks from Mine North of F1 to the F2 South Distribution Center.
Once done, ride the Monorail from Mine North of F1 to the F2 South Distribution Center or vice versa.
When you pass over the Inventor’s Island, you can press and hold the ‘X’ button to drop on the island.
Building Zipline
You can also build Ziplines to get on the island, though I don’t recommend it.
Nor do I recommend using the Monorail.
