Meeting a Friend in the Field is one of the Exploration-type Codex quests in Throne and Liberty, which you can find under the Urstella Fields of the Laslan region.

It is one of the special Exploration Codex quests!

Unlike the general ones that reward you with upgrade materials, meeting a Friend in the Field unlocks the Thieving Nick Amitoi.

Moreover, unlike most Exploration quests that become available when you reach a certain level and unlock the area’s Waypoint, even unlocking the Meeting a Friend in the Field is complicated and confusing.

Seeing that, I prepared this detailed guide covering everything on the quest while focusing on how to unlock and complete Meeting a Friend in the Field Codex quest in Throne and Liberty.

How to unlock Meeting a Friend in the Field quest in Throne and Liberty

In Throne and Liberty, you can unlock the Meeting a Friend in the Field quest by completing the Appendix quest, “Ashien’s Strange Painting.”

Once that is done, you can make Meeting a Friend in the Field quest active from the Laslan > Urstella Fields section in the Exploration tab of the Codex.

How to unlock and complete Ashien’s Strange Painting quest

For players who don’t know, “Ashien’s Strange Painting” is one of the side quests that unlocks at the end of Chapter 3: Veterans Never Die.

To complete the quest, you must head to the Starlight Observatory, talk to Ashien, and investigate her Strange Painting.

Afterward, you must open the main menu and select the ‘Secret Dungeons’ option from the ‘Content’ section.

You must enter the 1F Charging Gatekeeper and defeat the ‘Chief Orc Gatekeeper’ boss there.

Once that is done, you can exit the dungeon or die purposely and resurrect outside of the dungeon.

Lastly, you must talk to Ashien again at the Starlight Observatory to complete and unlock the Meeting a Friend in the Field Codex quest.

Meeting a Friend in the Field quest walkthrough

Meeting a Friend in the Field Codex quest has six major sections. These are:

• Find the Powerless Little Doll in the Wrecked Carriage
• Talk to Ashien at Starlight Observatory Ruins
• Defeat the monsters on one of the floors between 1-10F in Taedal’s Tower
• Talk to Ashien at Starlight Observatory Ruins
• Talk to the Inn Owner at Kastleton, Kastleton Inn
• Talk to Tailor Noan in the guest room on the inn’s Kastleton, Kastleton Inn 2F, and awaken the Powerless Little Doll

The quest has six rewards; completing each section gives you access to the reward.

Find the Powerless Little Doll in the Wrecked Carriage

In this section of the quest, you must head to the wrecked carriage near a storage tent next to the Starlight Observatory Ruins.

Here’s a map screenshot sharing the Powerless Little Doll’s location:

Once you arrive there, interact with ‘A Powerless Little Doll’ and select the dialogue option, ‘Revitalize it.’

After that, if you want to read the dialogues, you can go through them or exhaust them to progress the quest.

Talk to Ashien at Starlight Observatory Ruins

The second objective will take you back to the Starlight Observatory Ruins, where you must talk to Ashien.

Select the dialogue option, “Do you know anything about Amitoi?”

Next, select “Is this doll an Amitoi?”

Lastly, select “I’ll go and see.” when Ashien tells you, “Oh, why don’t you try to catch the monster in my painting?”

This is where many players get stuck as they ignore Ashien’s dialogues and quickly select the response.

To progress, open the Main Menu and select ‘Secret Dungeons’ under the ‘Content’ section.

You must select a Floor between 1 and 10 and defeat the boss there.

I recommend going for the lower floors or the one you can easily defeat based on your current level.

After you defeat the boss, exit the dungeon, or you can die and resurrect outside.

Talk to Ashien at Starlight Observatory Ruins

Once outside the dungeon, the next objective is to talk to Ashien at the Starlight Observatory Ruins.

Select the dialogue option “Inside the painting, I…” and then the dialogue “I’ll try asking around the Kastleton Inn.”

Talk to the Inn Owner at Kastleton, Kastleton Inn

Teleport to the Kastleton waypoint and head inside the Inn. You will find the Inn Owner near the counter, who will direct you to Room 202.

Yes! The same haunted room you investigated during “A Kastleton Inn Ghost Story.”

Talk to Tailor Noan in the guest room on the inn’s

This is the last section of the quest and a very easy one to complete.

Take the stairs behind you to reach the second floor and follow the path.

Interact with Room 202, which you can find at the other end of the balcony.

Enter it and talk to Noan. Exhaust his dialogues and interact with the Powerless Doll to pour in your mana to revive Thieving Nick.

How to get and equip Thieving Nick Amitoi in Throne and Liberty

For players who skipped directly to this section, you can unlock Thieving Nick Amitoi after completing the Meeting a Friend in the Field Codex quest.

Once you do that, open the main menu and select the ‘Amitoi’ option, which you can find under the ‘Character’ section.

Select and hold the respective button to ‘Summon’ Thieving Nick as the active Amitoi.
