Black Ops 6 beta allowed players to try different multiplayer game modes before the official release. But even during the beta, the game suffered from a few significant technical issues and glitches, like the Black Ops 6 black flickering screen issue, and a few minor but infuriating ones, like being unable to use your previous username to play the game.

What is Black Ops 6 could not rename your account error?

Whenever Activision’s username policy changes, players are asked to change their username to a proper one that meets all the requirements to play a game associated with their account. But to change your Activision username, you must have a ‘Rename Token’ that you can get for free every six months.

But when players have exhausted their Rename Tokens, changing their username in a game like Black Ops 6 or others results in the “Could not rename your account” error, with no options or suggestions on how to fix it.

How to fix could not rename your account error in Black Ops 6

As mentioned earlier, you get the error “could not rename your account” when you try to rename your username in-game but do not have Rename Tokens.

To fix it, you must follow the below steps:

  1. Log in to your Activision account.
  2. Select BASIC INFO.
  3. Select EDIT next to your ACTIVISION ID.
  4. In the ACCOUNT VERIFICATION REQUIRED pop-up, select SEND CODE.
  5. Go to your email account to retrieve the one-time verification code.
  6. Return to the ACCOUNT VERIFICATION REQUIRED pop-up and enter the code.
  7. On the BASIC INFO tab and select EDIT next to your ACTIVISION ID.
  8. Enter a new Activision ID/Display Name and select SAVE.
  9. Enter the password for your Activision account.
  10. Select SUBMIT.

Once you rename your username, you can play Black Ops 6 without issues. Moreover, renaming through the above steps will not require Rename Token.
