If you are finding it hard to defeat the giant octopus-like mech boss during the Main Order Investigate the Unusual Tar Current near F1 in Death Stranding 2, I’ve got you covered with this guide.
The giant mech boss battle in Death Stranding takes place during the Main Order 12.
It is an easy boss battle, but it can become challenging if you don’t know about the boss’s weak spots and the right weapons to use to defeat it.
And that is why I prepared this short but detailed guide on how you can easily defeat the giant mech boss in Death Stranding 2. So keep reading!
How to start the giant mech boss fight in Death Stranding 2

To start the giant mech boss battle, you must take the Main Order 12 – Investigate the Unusual Tar Currents near F1.

Go through the usual process and start the order.

After that, simply head to the quest objective location at the West Fort Knot (F1).
When you get close to the big pool of tar, a cutscene will play out.
Higgs and his minions will spawn, and at the end of it, the huge mech boss that you must fight and defeat to progress.
How to beat the giant mech boss in Death Stranding 2

To beat the big mech boss, I recommend crafting three Shotgun [MP] Lv1 via the Fabricate Equipment menu, along with three to four Blood Bags.
If you have the capacity, I also recommend crafting and taking the Grenade Pistol [MP] and one Machine Gun [MP].
Once you have the equipment, it is best to drop all other cargo before entering the boss battle to ensure it doesn’t get damaged.

Once you are ready, head to the objective and start the boss fight.
After the cutscene, the giant mech boss will spawn right in front of you at a distance.
Quickly, take out the Machine Gun [MP] and start shooting at the boss’s glowing eye.
Weak Points
The giant mech boss’s weak points are the glowing lights around its body.

Once the boss is close to you, switch to the Shotgun and start shooting at the glowing lights on its tentacles.
I recommend taking out a few tentacles as it helps reduce the frequency of ranged tentacle-based melee attacks that deal massive damage.
The shotgun takes only a few bullets to break the tentacles and deal big damage to the boss.

Whenever you break a part of the mech boss, it will stagger and fall down.
And in some cases, it will stare at you, giving you a window to attack.
When the boss is down or when you have an attack window, target the boss’s glowing eye using the Grenade Pistol or the Shotgun to deal massive damage.

Keep taking out its arms.
When the boss does a arm melee attack or a slam attack, you can run to the opposite direction and press the R1 key at the last moment to slide and avoid the attack.

Keep attacking its weak spots using the Shotgun and Grenade Pistol, and you will be able to take out the boss in no time.

Once you defeat the boss, head inside the F1 facility.

Interact with the terminal and complete the quest.
