Entered the Shrine of Trials in Mortal Shell 2 but can’t proceed through the main gate? Don’t know what the text, “Gaze upon your king so true, back and back you shall pass through,” means? No worries. I’ve got you covered with this guide.
As you explore the Mushroom Village, you will come across a Chapel. Once you unlock it using a key, you will find a portal inside that takes you to the Shrine of Trials.
For players who don’t know, the Shrine of Trials holds the Axe and Dagger weapon, and thus, completing the dungeon is highly recommended.
But the first hurdle that comes across you after entering the Shrine of Trials is a puzzle: “Gaze upon your king so true, back and back you shall pass through.”
In this guide, I have explained what it means and how to solve it to get past the door.
What does ‘Gaze upon your king so true, back and back you shall pass through’ mean?

In Mortal Shell 2’s Shrine of Trials, the text “Gaze upon your king so true, back and back you shall pass through” means that you should keep looking at the king’s state while moving towards the door.
Only then will you be able to pass through it.
How do I solve the “Gaze upon your king so true, back and back you shall pass through” puzzle and get past the door?

Solving the puzzle is real easy, once you enter the Shrine of Trials, head to the king’s statue.

Stand in front of it and make sure your camera is focusing on the statue. Now, while keeping the camera fixed on the statue, walk backward.
Don’t worry if your character starts facing the opposite direction while walking; to solve the puzzle, all you need is to keep your camera focused on the king’s statue.

If you do it correctly, you will hear a sound and will be able to pass through the door.

Now, you can continue with the pressure plate puzzles and so on and get the Axe and Dagger.
I also have a full walkthrough for the Shrine of Trials that covers how to get the Chapel Key. If you are stuck at any point, check it out.
