Whether you are looking to get your hands on the Warhammer of Flames or other lucrative items and rewards or want to free a trapped ghost, I’ve got you covered with my Oblivion Remastered The Forlorn Watchman walkthrough guide.
The Forlorn Watchman is a side quest in the game where you investigate a rumor about a ghost that appears every night in the Bravil region.
While you can start and complete the entire quest in a variety of ways, I recommend doing the quest as it was meant to.
And that is what I have shared in this guide. Every step, from major to minor, will help you start and complete The Forlorn Watchman side quest.
That being said, the quest also leads to a hidden treasure chest that holds the unique Enchanted Warhammer of Flames weapon along with other items like Grand Soul Gem, Silver Amulet, Gold, etc.
With that being out of the way, here’s my walkthrough on The Forlorn Watchman in Oblivion Remastered.
How to start The Forlorn Watchman quest in Oblivion Remastered

To trigger The Forlorn Watchman quest, teleport to Bravil. It is located south of the Imperial City.

Once you are inside Bravil, talk to civilians and ask them about rumors.

They will tell you about the ghost of an old man who looks out into Niben Bay each night.

Once you learn about that, The Forlorn Watchman quest will get added to your Journal.
Oblivion Remastered The Forlorn Watchmen side quest complete walkthrough

Assuming you talked to the civilians in Bravel and started The Forlorn Watchmen quest, here are the steps you must follow to complete the quest:
- Talk to Gilgondorin inside Silverhome on the Water Inn
- Head to Bawnwatch Camp and wait until 8 pm
- Follow the ghost and talk to him to learn about the Mouth of the Panther
- Ask Gilgondorin about the Mouth of the Panther
- Head to Mouth of the Panther and investigate the wrecked Emma May ship
- Free Blakely’s corpse and pick up the map on the ground
- Head to the treasure location and collect it
Talk to Gilgondorin inside Silverhome on the Water Inn

In this section of the quest, you must head to the Silverhome of the Water Inn located near Bravil’s main gate.
Once you are inside, talk to the Inn Keeper, Gilgondorin.

Ask him about The Forlorn Watchman. Doing so will progress the quest.
Head to Bawnwatch Camp and wait until 8 pm

Gilgondorin will tell you that the ghost appears at the Bawnwatch Camp every night at 8 on the shore of Niben Bay.

Bawnwatch Camp is located southeast of Bravil City near the shores.

Head to Bawnwatch Camp.

Once you arrive, pass the time until it is 8 pm.
After 8 pm, the ghost of the old man spawns and follows a pre-destined path.
Follow the ghost and talk to him to learn about the Mouth of the Panther

In this part of the quest, once the ghost spawns, go near it to progress the quest and keep following it.

You don’t have to sneak as you can casually walk around the ghost until it reaches the big tree near Fort Irony.

Note: Many players might get stuck in the quest as the ghost gets stuck near a tree.
It happened to me more than four times and restarting the quest, passing time or any such thing didn’t help.

Moreover, when you talk to him near that location, you will get the message, “The Watchman ignores you when you try to speak to him.”
To make the ghost walk again, head in front of it and attack.
During my playthrough what I did was, stand right in front of him.
He started moving slightly and when I aimed my bow and attacked him, he suddenly started walking again.

The ghost of the old man will head to the above-player icon location near Fort Irony.

Once here is there, talk to him.
He will say, “I was once the man known as Grantham Blakeley. Look for me in the mouth of the panther. Please…release me.”
Ask Gilgondorin about the Mouth of the Panther

Head back to Bravil and make your way inside the Silverhome on the Water Inn.

Talk to Gilgondorin and ask him about the Mouth of the Panther.

Select the dialogue, “Can you tell me where it is?”

After that, Gilgondorin will tell you about the location.
Head to Mouth of the Panther and investigate the wrecked Emma May ship

The Mouth of the Panther is located at the junction where Panther River meets Niben Bay, at the above highlighted location.

Head there and you will find a wrecked ship.

Go near the hull and you will get the prompt to enter the Emma May Upper Deck.

Once you are inside, you will find two Faded Wraith enemies in the Upper Deck area.
Take them out.

Head inside the Bedroom Area. You will find the Log of Emma May on a table.
Read it to learn about the betrayal and progress the quest.

After that, head to the other end of the Upper Deck where there are a ton of wooden crates.
Look on the ground and you will find Trap Door to Emma May Mid Deck.

On the Mid Deck, you will find more Wraiths. Defeat them.

Take the Trap Door to Emmay May Lower Deck.

On the Lower Deck, you will find the Wraith of Gable the Traitor who betrayed the old man.

Defeat him and search his body to get the Small Key.

Once you have the key, go near the locked door in the lower deck and open it.
Free Blakely’s corpse and pick up the map on the ground

To free the old man, Grantham, you must interact with the Shackled Skeleton.

Once you do that, his ghost will spawn and thank you for freeing him.

After that, collect the Grantham Blakeley’s Map from the ground.
Head to the treasure location and collect it

When you interact with the map, you will find the Treasure location marked on it.
It is close to Emma May’s location.

Head to the above marked location and you will arrive at the river area where Grantham’s treasure is hidden.

Dive underwater.

Open the chest to complete the quest.
Oblivion Remastered The Forlorn Watchmen quest rewards

The items that you get from the treasure chest are the rewards for The Forlorn Watchman side quest.

Among the contents of the chest, the Warhammer of Flames is something that you shouldn’t miss out on.

It is a Fire Enchanted Warhammer that deals massive damage to enemies.
