A Brotherhood Betrayed is a simple but long side quest in the game that rewards you with an enchanted amulet that increases your Speed.
The quest revolves around a rumored vampire killer who murders two civilians saying that they are vampires.
Your job in the quest is to investigate their murder and learn the truth.

How to get A Brotherhood Betrayed quest in Oblivion Remastered
To trigger A Brotherhood Betrayed side quest in Oblivion Remastered, fast travel to Bruma located north of the Imperial City.
Once you spawn, make your way to the center of the town.
From the big statue and cathedral’s location, head towards the house on the right side.
It is Bradon Lirrian’s House! Go inside.
You will be stopped by the guard captain Carius Runellius.
Exhaust his dialogues.
He will tell you about how a vampire hunter named Raynil Dralas killed Bradon as he was a vampire and all that.
As him about Raynil Dralas.
He won’t say anything at first.
So, head to the Persuade menu and persuade him to talk about Raynil by taking the persuasion meter to 70 or above.
Tips: Just Bribe him and take the meter to 70 or above. It is easy and quick.
After that, he will tell you about Raynil and the incident in detail.
On the same note, A Brotherhood Betrayed quest also gets added to your journal.
Oblivion Remastered A Brotherhood Betrayed side quest complete walkthrough
A Brotherhood Betrayed side quest has multiple objectives with the main one being investigating the murder of Bradon.
Here’s a quick overview of all the steps involved in the quest:
- Talk to the citizens of Bruma and ask about rumors
- Head to Bradon Lirrian’s house
- Persuade Carius and ask him about Raynil and the murder of Bradon
- Investigate the Bradon’s house’s basement
- Talk to Bradon’s neighbor and his wife Erline
- Ask around about the whereabouts of the vampire hunter, Raynil Dralas.
- Head to Olav’s Tap and Tack.
- Speak to the owner Olav and persuade him to talk about Raynil.
- Get the key to Raynil’s room and head inside
- Read and collect Gelebourne’s Journal found behind the cuboard
- Give the diary to Carius inside Bradon’s house
- Meet Carius at Olav’s Inn after one hour
- Head to Boreal Stone Cave.
- Kill Raynil, and collect all three keys to recover the Mundane Amulet from the Waterlogged Chest.
- Take the amulet back to Erline
As you can see, it is a big quest and can confuse many players.
Some even get stuck at certain points.
To make things easier, below I have shared every step in order. So, keep reading!
Assuming you have followed the guide so far and started A Brotherhood Betrayed side quest and are inside Bradon’s house, use the Trap Door to Bradon Lirrians Basement.
Once you spawn inside, search the Murdered Beggar’s body.
Now, exit Bradon’s house and head to the neighbor’s house.
Bradon’s neighbor is Istrius Brolus, whose wife Jantus teaches Illusion Magic.
Once you are inside her house, talk to Jantus Brolus.
Ask her about Raynil Dralas and exhaust her dialogues.
The quest will update and you will get the objective to investigate the crime scene.
Head back to Bradon’s house and talk to his wife, Erline.
Ask her about Raynil and you will trigger a series of linear dialogue options.
Once you exhaust all of her dialogues, the quest will update.
Before you exit the house, talk to Carius.
Exhaust his dialogues.
The next objective is to locate Raynil who is nowhere to be found.
Head to the Inn found near Bradon’s house as marked in the above screenshot.
It is the Jerall View Inn. Head inside and talk to the owner.
Ask Hafid about Raynil and he will tell you he is staying at Olav’s Inn.
Head to Olav’s Inn. You can find it left of the chapel.
Talk to Olav and ask him about Raynil.
At first, he will not tell you anything. So, click on the Persuade button.
Once again, take the persuasion meter to 70 or above via the Bribe option or the mini-game.
Once done, ask him about Raynil and he will give you his room’s key.
Head to Raynil’s room. [The last room in Olav’s Inn.]
Use the key to open the locked door.
As soon as you open the door, the quest will update with the new objective being, “searching the place for anything suspicious.”
Look behind the cupboard and you will find Gelebourne’s Journal.
Read the journal to progress the quest and learn about the murders.
Once done, make sure to collect Gelebourne’s Journal by using the ‘Take’ option that appears while you are reading the journal.
Head back to Bradon’s house and talk to Carius.
Ask him about Gelebourne.
He will tell you that he was also a vampire and that Raynil killed him.
Select the ‘I disagree’ option.
After that, select, the “I have Gelebourne’s journal” option.
If you don’t pick up his journal from Raynil’s room, you will get the dialogue option, “I have no proof with me.”
And, that is why, earlier, I said to collect the journal after reading it.
After you give Carius the journal, he will inform the guards and will ask you to meet him at Olav’s place after an hour.
Spend an hour or more using the Wait option.
Head to Olav and Carius will share you Raynil’s location.
After that, make your way to Boreal Stone Cave located west of Bruma.
Head inside the cave.
In the middle, you will find the chest for which Ranil murdered Bradon and Gelebourne.
On the right, you will find Raynil hiding in the shadows.
If you interact with the chest, Raynil will confront you.
Or, you can directly take him out as there’s no option to spare him.
Collect all three keys from Raynil’s dead body:
- Bradon’s Key
- Gelebourne’s Key
- Raynil’s Key
Open the Waterlogged Chest in the middle of the cave.
Collect the Mundane Amulet to progress the quest.
Now, head back to Bradon’s house and talk to Erline.
Ask her about the Mundane Amulet.
She will tell you about the amulet’s secret.
After you go through the above series of linear dialogue options, Erline will take the Mundane Amulet.
She will then use a secret spell to turn it into the Phylactery of Litheness Amulet and will give it to you.
And, that’s it. That completes the quest.
