When you start Space Marine 2, upon starting the ‘New Game,’ you get a cutscene that keeps lagging and crashing your game. For me, the game kept crashing.

The best way to fix Space Marine 2 crashing during the opening cinematic issue is to lower your Graphics Settings to ‘Low,’ lock the FPS to 30 or 60, and turn off the Steam Overlay and other Overlays. Once you do that, start the game and click ‘New Game’ or ‘Continue.’
After that, make sure not to press any key and let the cutscene play out. I would recommend waiting for ten minutes or so. Just get a coffee or something to eat. I know if you are looking at the screen, you may start pressing random buttons.
