Whether you are stuck at finding and defeating Soul Arbiter in Carmine Forest or don’t know where to find Circe near Syleus’s Abyss in the game, my Throne and Liberty The Abyssal Contract Appendix quest walkthrough guide covers it all.

The Abyssal Contract is one of the many Appendix quests in Throne and Liberty that act as a concluding quest of a particular Chapter.
While most of the Appendix quests are just going from point A to B, talking to certain NPCs, and learning specific features, The Abyssal Contract quest differs significantly from the others.
In this quest, you are tasked to find and defeat a specific type of enemy and follow its soul, eventually leading to Syleus’s Abyss to spawn and defeat an elite enemy called Circe.
There are two points during the quest where most players get stuck; the first is locating the Soul Arbiter-type enemies in the Carmine Forest, and the other is spawning Circe.
In the latter objective, even when some players manage to get the soul of the Soul Arbiter to Syleus’s Abyss, Circe doesn’t spawn.
The quest doesn’t even tell you where to look for Circe. Is it inside the Syleus’s Abyss or outside?
Seeing that, I prepared this detailed walkthrough guide covering how to get and complete The Abyssal Contract quest in Throne and Liberty.
Update: I have verified the walkthrough on Feb 18, 2025.
How to get The Abyssal Contract quest in Throne and Liberty

In Throne and Liberty, you unlock The Abyssal Contract Appendix quest at the end of Chapter 4: The Terrific Trio of Carmine Forest.
Once you complete the Chapter and move to Chapter 5, you will automatically unlock The Abyssal Contract quest.
If the quest is not active for you, press and hold the button that appears below the quest window on the right side of the screen. [On PS5, it is the ‘△’ button.]
Doing so will open ‘Control Mode.’ Now, use the side navigation keys ‘R1’ and ‘L1’ on PS5 to navigate to the main question section.
There, you will find all the quests. From there, you can make The Abyssal Contract quest active.
The Abyssal Contract Appendix quest walkthrough

The Abyssal Contract quest has four objectives that you must complete. These are:
- Speak with Rutaine at Carmine Forest
- Defeat the Soul Arbiter in Carmine Forest
- Follow the Soldier’s Soul that appears after defeating a Soul Arbiter and defeat Circe
- Speak with Rutaine at Carmine Forest
Here is how you can complete each section of The Abyssal Contract quest in Throne and Liberty.
Speak with Rutaine at Carmine Forest

You can find Rutaine in his usual spot at the camp in the Carmine Forest. His location is marked with the blue quest icon.
Still, I have shared his location below:

Head there, talk to Rutaine, and exhaust his dialogues to progress to the next objective.
Defeat the Soul Arbiter in Carmine Forest

To complete this section of the quest, you must find and defeat one Soul Arbiter.
You can find a Soul Arbiter at the wooden bridge found northeast of Rutaine’s camp.
Here’s the exact map location:

Another Soul Arbiter is found near the cross-section of the path that takes you to Syleus’s Abyss.

Here’s the location of the second Soul Arbiter:

I recommend defeating the one near the Syleus’s Abyss to make the next section easier and quicker to complete.
Follow the Soldier’s Soul that appears after defeating a Soul Arbiter and defeat Circe

In this part of the quest, you must follow the Soldier’s Soul to Syleus’s Abyss, which appears after defeating the Soul Arbiter-type enemy.

In my case, I was playing solo, and it took me two Soldier’s Souls to make Circe spawn.
Update
If no other players are escorting the Souls in your server, you will need four Soldier’s Souls to spawn Circe.
Circe spawn location

If you follow one Soldier’s Soul and it doesn’t spawn Circe at the above location, head back and defeat the Soul Arbiter again.

This time around, you should be able to spawn Circe. Defeat her, and you will complete the objective.
Speak with Rutaine at Carmine Forest

After you defeat Circe, teleport to the Carmine Forest Waypoint and head to Rutaine’s camp.
Talk to him and exhaust his dialogues to complete The Abyssal Contract quest in Throne and Liberty.

I noticed in the picture you posted where Circe is spawned, every time a soul is escorted in, it will make the jugs on one of the 4 statues behind her glow. When all 4 are glowing, Circe will spawn. So it will take a max of 4 souls escorted to spawn her, assuming nobody gets one in there while you’re running them.
Yes! The jugs do glow. Also, that can be the case as when I was preparing for this guide, one more player was escorting the Soldier’s Souls. That is why, it took me only two souls.
Thanks for pointing it out. I have updated the guide.
