Don’t know how to defeat a trapped Basilisk? Or are you unable to locate a Giant Crystal Scorpion in the game to complete the associated Codex quest? If so, I’ve covered you with my Throne and Liberty Intimidating Breath Codex quest walkthrough guide.
Defeating trapped Basilisk and a Giant Crystal Scorpion is a part of Throne and Liberty’s Intimidating Breath Exploration-type Codex quest.
While the objective seems simple at first glance, as the entire Abandoned Stonemason Town is full of Basilisk and Scorpions, it is not.
Similar to the Unidentified Contaminant Codex quest, which at the end required players to defeat a wet Large Stone Crab, a particular restriction is attached to the Intimidating Breath quest.
Moreover, even though the quest clearly says you have to defeat a trapped Basilisk, players cannot complete it as the trap works only for a short time.
What makes the quest even worse is the amount of enemies that you aggro around you while you are trying to complete the objective.
So, if you are also stuck with the quest, keep reading as I explain how to get and complete the Intimidating Breath Codex quest in Throne and Liberty.
Update: I have verified the walkthrough on Feb 18, 2025.
How to unlock the Intimidating Breath Codex quest in Throne and Liberty

To unlock the Intimidating Breath Codex quest in Throne and Liberty, players must unlock the Abandoned Stonemason Town Waypoint.
Once you do that, you can head to the ‘Codex‘ from the main menu.
Navigate to the Stonegard region in the ‘Exploration‘ tab. There, players can find the Abandoned Stonemason Town tab.
Select it and you will find six Exploration quests within it, one being the Intimidating Breath.
How to reach the Abandoned Stonemason Town Waypoint

Make your way to the player icon location as shown in the above map screenshot, and use your grapple to enter the Abandoned Stonemason Town.

Follow the path on the north, and you will find the Abandoned Stonemason Town Waypoint on top of a rocky elevated area.
Intimidating Breath quest walkthrough

The Intimidating Breath quest has only two sections. These are:
- Defeat Giant Crystal Scorpion (0/1)
- Defeat the trapped Basilisk (0/1)
Here’s the breakdown of both sections.
Defeat Giant Crystal Scorpion

The Giant Crystal Scorpion is a boss-type enemy that spawns slightly north of the Old Rampart Resurrection Location.

Another spawn for the Giant Crystal Scorpion is the fields north of the Abandoned Stonemason Town Waypoint.
One also spawns around the Quarry Camp and in the nearby areas. However, the most consistent spawn is the first one.
Here’s the map location where you can find the Giant Crystal Scorpion:

If the boss is not there, just wait for some time, and it will spawn.
Do not go to another location. Many players are trying to complete the quest, and they often kill it before you can do anything.

Remember that even if another player is fighting the Giant Crystal Scorpion, if you deal slight damage from your side, you will still complete the objective irrespective of who defeats the Giant Crystal Scorpion.
Of to the next and the most annoying objective.
Defeat the trapped Basilisk

The area north of the Abandoned Stonemason Town Waypoint and west of the Old Chapel has many traps on the ground where you can trap the Basilisk.
To complete the objective, you must defeat the Basilisk while it is trapped and its body is glowing blue.

Thankfully, the traps are restored within seconds!

Here’s a great Trap location with fewer mobs to avoid aggro’ing them and messing up the objective:

Head there and shoot the nearby Basilisk to aggro.
After that, let the Basilisk walk into the trap. Before that, deal as much damage as you can.
Once the Basilisk is trapped, hit it with your strongest attack.
If you feel the Basilisk won’t die within one or two seconds.
Stop attacking!
Direct the Basilisk again to the trap and now finish the job. You can also lower the Basilisk’s HP and then direct him to the trap.
As I said earlier, defeating the Basilisk in the trapped state will complete the objective.
