Leap of Faith quest walkthrough

Leap of Faith is a massive quest with 12 main objectives and one optional with many dialogue choices that decide the fate of certain NPCs.

To make things easier, I have listed all the objectives the quest offers below:

  1. Listen to the Distress Signal
  2. Look for the wounded scavenger
  3. Speak to Leamon
  4. Find the radiation specialist
  5. Work out a deal with the ghouls
  6. Meet Asher at Emmett Mountain Side Tunnel
  7. Defend Asher from feral ghouls
  8. Deal with the scavenger
  9. Watch the confrontation
  10. Determine what to do about Madeline
  11. Return to Parthenia
  12. Help Leamon make the decision
    • (Optional) Talk to Asher

Now that you know the different quest objectives, continue reading the walkthrough!

Listen to the Distress Signal

The first objective in the Leap of Faith quest in Fallout 76 is to “Listen to the Distress Signal.”

To complete it, you must open the Pip-Boy menu by pressing the Tab button on the PC and the respective buttons on the console.

Once that is done, navigate to the Radio section.

There, select the ‘Distress Signal.’

After that, wait for the signal to complete transmission to get the next objective.

Look for the wounded scavenger

After hearing the distress signal, you are tasked to look for the wounded scavenger who was transmitting the signal.

You can find the wounded scavenger at the Whitespring Resort.

Teleport to the ‘Whitespring Refuge’ and take the path on the left side.

In the Expedition Room, you will find the Infirmary, where you can see the wounded scavenger and a Responder Medic.

Listen to their conversation to progress the quest.

Speak to Leamon

The wounded scavenger that you were looking for is an NPC named Leamon.

Talk to him!

Exhaust his dialogue options to progress the quest.

That said, here are the dialogue options I recommend selecting.

[You can choose any as there are no consequences.]

When you start the conversation, select, “I’m doing well. Happy to brighten the day of a fellow stranger if I can.”

Afterward, select, “As a matter of fact, I heard about them from your radio broadcast.”

Then select “Are you okay?”

If you have enough Charisma, you can give a more charismatic reponse to Leamon and get better rewards.

Select, “I’d be happy to provide protection, but I’d need compensation for equipment maintenance.”

On the other hand, if you don’t have high Charisma, just select the dialogue:

“How about I meet you up north? I can protect you from any bandits that show up.”

Lastly, select “This is a mighty fine piece of rock. You’ve got a deal!”

[Even though he gives a single Lead Ore, it is worth giving him a positive response.]

Find the radiation specialist

The next objective in the quest is to find a radiation specialist.

This is where some players get stuck, as they don’t know where to look for the radiation specialist.

You can find the radiation specialist inside the Hillside Cavern that you can find in the northeast part of the map.

The Hillside Cavern is a new POI in the Savage Divide that plays a vital role in Fallout 76’s Leap of Faith quest and also works as one of the entrances to the ghouls outpost.

The nearest teleport point is the Mysterious Cave, which you explore at the end of the main story.

So teleport to the Mysterious Cave and make your way to the Hillside Cavern.

Head inside the cavern and keep following the main path.

Soon, you will reach an underground nuclear military facility and see Leamon is at gunpoint by a ghoul named Kevan Asherton.

Go near them, and you will trigger a series of conversations between you, Leamon, and Kevan.

Select “I’m healthy. Just accompanying my friend, here. Could you please help him, Mr. Scary Bandit?”

[You can select any dialogue as all you get is a different response, but not much!]

After exhausting the dialogue, you will finally meet Parthenia, the Radiation Specialist.

Work out a deal with the ghouls

Parthenia will try to persuade Kevan to spare Leamon’s life and instead turn him into a ghoul.

Select any dialogue options, as your choice has no consequences.

Here are the dialogues that I selected:

“Sounds great! You game, Leamon?”

“This is crazy! Who in their right mind would become a ghoul on purpose?”

“Tough. Nothing justifies the murder of innocents.”

Finally, select “Let’s head to Emmett Mountain and get that irridated ore.” to progress the quest.

Meet Asher at Emmett Mountain Side Tunnel

Once you select the above dialogue, you will get the Emmett Mountain Side Tunnel Key from Leamon.

Now, open the map and teleport to the Emmett Mountain Side Tunnel POI.

But instead of heading into the regular tunnel where the Radiation Rumble event occurs, head to the shed on the right side.

Once you are inside, defeat the two ghouls attacking Kevan.

After that, talk to him and select the dialogue option, “Leamon gave me the key. Let me open that gate up for you.”

Or, you can mess with him by selecting other dialogue options first.

Defend Asher from feral ghouls

Once you open the gate on the left side of the room using the key you got from Leamon, you must defend Asher from ghouls.

The entire area is filled with radiation.

Make sure to wear a Hazmat Suit. You can find many at the entrance and all around the facility.

You can also use a power armor to ensure you don’t die from the radiation.

Once you are ready, head inside and kill two more ghouls to progress the quest.

Deal with the scavenger

The next objective is to deal with the scavenger. Head to the entrance of the facility.

There, you will encounter an NPC named Madeline.

Select any dialogue, as no matter what you do, Asher will confront her.

I selected, “[Lie] Yeah, just started today.”

Watch the confrontation

The next objective in the Leap of Faith quest is watching the confrontation between Madeline and Asher.

This is an important part of the quest, as your dialogue choice will decide Madeline’s fate.

First, select “Wait! Don’t shoot!”

Determine what to do about Madeline

After choosing that, you will get to decide whether to kill Madeline or spare her!

To spare Madeline’s life, select any of the two dialogue options:

If you have high Strength, select:

“I’m warning you to back off. You won’t be able to protect your people if you’re dead.”

If you have high Charisma, select:

“I hate to say it, but the rumor is already out there. Why don’t you let her go and focus on protecting your location?”

Once you spare her life, select “She was innocent. It’s worth it to retain your humanity.”

Return to Parthenia

The next objective in the quest is to return to Parthenia.

Open the map and teleport to the Hillside Cavern POI.

Head inside the cavern and follow the path inside the facility.

Wait until Parthenia, Leamon, and Asher complete their conversation.

Help Leamon make the decision

The last and most important part of the quest is deciding whether Leamon should become a ghoul or remain a human until he dies from radiation.

(Optional) Talk to Asher

There’s also an optional objective where you can ask Asher for his opinion.

He is pessimistic about Leamon turning into a ghoul.

According to Asher, there are more cons than pros to Leamon turning into a ghoul.

After talking to Asher, you can talk to Leamon and select:

To make Leamon a ghoul

“I think you should become a ghoul and keep chasing your dream. There are ways to make it work.”

To keep Leamon a human

“Your dream is as good as wasted if you take this step. Better to retain your humanity until the last.”

I made Leamon a ghoul, as I don’t want to lose any NPC!

Selecting any of the two dialogues will decide Leamon’s fate and will complete Leap of Faith quest.

You don’t get any special rewards from the quest. Just regular ones while unlocking the next quest, “A Fresh Pair of Genes.”

That allows you to become a Ghoul!

  • Bro where do we find the distress signal you leave out the signal most vital part of the tutorial you just tell us how to navigate our pip-boy usless tutorial at that point

    • Hey,

I haven’t left out any part. By “where do we find the distress signal?” Do you mean how to get the Distress Signal in the Radio section for the quest? If so, the quest is currently not available in live servers and is only in PTS. Once the Ghoulification update is live and you are at least level 50, you will be able to see the Distress Signal in your Pip Boy and the Leap of Faith quest.

If I got your question wrong, please let me know what exactly you want to know and I will be more than happy to answer that.

      Have a good day!
